Sometimes you need a generic project that can be used as an individual student assignment when class sizes are small or a group project when class sizes are large. This is where Project ABC for ANY Topic comes in! Regardless of the topic you are teaching, this activity can be used as a review of materials or as an assessment of materials in ANY course, with any topic! It even includes a version that can be turned into a bulletin board or wall display afterwards.

Options

• Option #1:  ABC Index Card Poem Activity
  • In this version, students create an index card for their assigned letter(s) around the topic you’ve been covering in class. If you have small classes, this can be done individually where each student makes a card deck for all of the letters of the alphabet (NOTE: Doing the project this way will require a lot of time so keep that in mind when you assign your due date). If you have large classes, this can be done by randomly assigning a letter or multiple letters to each students or groups of students.
  • Letters can be assigned by pulling them out of a can…for example, use magnetic letters or create index card letters from unique magazine fonts. You could even put together an alphabet wheel using the Letter Picker Wheel.
  • Once letters are assigned, students can begin illustrating their index cards with colored pencils, markers or crayons.
  • When finished, students share their cards in alphabetical order and once the cards are read, you can attach them to your bulletin board for a great visual about the topic examples.
  • If you don’t have a bulletin board, but still wish to have students create a poem, you can assign this as an individual or small group assignment, using the Google Slide template–see Option #2.
• Option #2: ABC Book Google Slide Template
  • The only difference with this version of the project is that it is done digitally, using a Google Slide Template already set up and ready to go for the assigned topic.
  • In this version, students add an image from the computer to their letter/slide instead of adding a hand-generated one.
  • Students still need to share their slides in alphabetical order when finished.
