
Claims made on foods can be very confusing to adults let alone students! In this Nutrition & Health Claims lesson, students learn the differences between the two in a variety of ways.
It’s been my experience that many students, especially junior high, don’t know food safety concepts let alone practice them! The practices they believe to be safe are far from it and often very inaccurate. So, with all of the misinformation out there, it’s important for students to know what’s true versus what is false. With this Food Safety Myths & Facts activity, students learn the difference in a very engaging way. Read on to learn how this activity works.

A few years ago I created a couple of tarsia puzzles for use in helping students learn basic cooking tools and measuring abbreviations and equivalents. I had always meant to create more puzzles. In my younger years, the first section of the newspaper I would go for was the comics…especially the Sunday paper as they were in color! Even now, when I get the
chance to read an actual newspaper, I enjoy reading the comics (although it’s not the first section I go to). Why did I like them so much? Well, they were fun, humorous, interesting, thought provoking and left me curious with anticipation to see what the next strip would divulge if there was an ongoing storyline. I have been implementing hexagonal block activities in my classroom for the past couple of years and wanted to find a way to utilize them at the beginning of the year. Because our students will all be returning in person, the “All About Me: Hexagonal Doodle Blocks” will be a great way to ease them back from remote/cyber learning and help all of us reestablish relationships with this creative, hands-on activity.
