Money Talks Bulletin Board & Ice Breaker Activity

As a teacher, you have a lot on your plate! Why not let your students help you create bulletin boards as they also get acquainted with you, your class and their peers? The “Money Talks Bulletin Board & Ice Breaker Activity” will help you get your personal finance class or unit started, keep students engaged and help them learn more about each other and in the process you will learn more about their financial habits and backgrounds! It’s a WIN, WIN, WIN for everyone!

Directions

  • Print off copies of the MONEY BAG templates for students to fill out along with colored pencils, markers, crayons and scissors.
  • Go over the directions an elaborate on the prompts if needed before giving students time to work. Display the prompts on the screen for all to see while students are working.
  • Prompts include:
  • If I found $100, I would…
One thing I hope to learn about money or personal finance this year is…
    My biggest financial goal is…
Do you consider yourself a saver or a spender?
Who has taught you the most about money so far in your life?
Add a symbol or image that shows your biggest money goal…
Create a hashtag that describes your money personality…#___________
  • Have students add their first name only to the top of the bag and add their last name to the back of the money bag. This way if you have duplicate names, you can discern which bag belongs to who.
  • Once students have finished their bags, have them share their information with the class. As they are sharing, you can keep a running list of their answers which may help guide what you choose to teach them.
  • After students have shared their money bags, use them to create a bulletin board or wall display titled, “MONEY TALKS”. This will help remind them of their goals for as long as you desire the display to be up!
  • This might also be an interested end of course activity too as it will help you and your students to see how much they’ve grown and/or changed over the course.
