Throughout my foods course, I try to expose my students to a variety of global dishes. While lasagna is a well known dish, few of my studenst have actually prepared it from scratch. So, in addition to my pasta unit and my casserole unit, I taught them “All About Lasgna!” Read on to learn how!
Pasta is one of my all time favorite units to teach in my Foods unit! Pasta is so easy, versatile, and economical that I feel every student should know how to prepare before they leave high school! I always tell my students that they will never go hungry if they know how to cook pasta. Use the provided slide to navigate through a variety of resources to learn more about pasta as your students complete this assignment and work their way into the lab.
At the end of the grains, pasta, and rice unit we usually do a pasta fundraiser. This chicken, broccoli, fettuccine Alfredo is a popular choice among the faculty that can purchase this for lunch or as a take home meal.
If you have never made homemade pasta with your students you are missing out. It is a blast and my students’ reactions are always funny as they stare in amazement that you can make pasta from scratch!
