How Many Ways Can You Pay?

There was a time when you basically had only a few options when it came paying for goods and services. It was cash, check or credit card! That was it! Now there are a plethora of options available! Use the How Many Ways Can You Pay? lesson to help your students learn about the variety of payment methods at their disposal!

Set

  • Share the Bell Ringer Slide with students and tell them they have 5 minutes to do a brain dump about everything they know about digital payments. Start the timer on the slide and let them write. When the timer goes off, have them share what they came up with.
  • Share with students that they will be exploring a variety of digital payments in more detail.

Materials

Directions

  • Depending on your class size, determine if this project will be completed individually or in small groups.
  • Randomly assign students a digital payment option or let them choose…your call. Options include: Paypal, Samsung Pay, Debit Card, Apple Pay, Zelle,
    Online Bill Paying, Western Union, Money Order, Prepaid Card, Venmo and Google Pay.
  • Once students have their assigned or chosen payment option, they will create a digital slide presentation about the payment method that includes the following information:
    • Title (Payment Method)
    • Description (what it is, when it originated, etc.)
    • Features & Facts (include features/facts that set it apart)
    • Advantages and Disadvantages (security factors, fees, etc.)
    • Pictures (what it looks like)
    • Sources
  • Students present their information to the class, who in turn take notes on each digital payment method.
  • Each team also creates questions using the Kahoot planning template around their presentation.
  • The teacher will take all of the review questions and import them into a Kahoot Review Game for students to practice applying all of the information they learned about each of the digital payment methods and use it to review before the quiz or test.
