I frequently see requests from teachers for sewing projects. When I received this lesson from two experienced Utah FCS teachers, I knew I had to share! Shae Nilsen and
Jess Dredge have started a Sewing YouTube channel, The Guided Stitch, to help assist with this Plushie Pets Sewing Project and other student friendly projects.
Teacher Info
- The videos on their YouTube channel are perfect for classroom use because they intentionally use correct terminology and demonstrate the steps of each project clearly. They have also been developing written instructions and grading rubrics for each tutorial!
- The Plushie Pets sewing project is broken down by steps, one for each part of the project with a total of fourteen videos. This is a great way to show students what you expect them to accomplish and if your school is 1:1, students can access each video on their own if they need to see it again. They also provide a Plushie Pet Google Slide Tutorial that corresponds with the video. This tutorial can be found on TPT as a free resource, titled Plushie Pet Tutorial Slideshow.
- They have also created a corresponding rubric for the Plushie Pets sewing project that is a freebie on TPT, titled Plushie Pet Grading Rubric.
- The plushie pet is ready for any teacher to use if they just purchase the McCall’s pattern! The pattern is also in the Simplicity school pattern library, and can be purchased for $2.50 each if the teacher has a Simplicity education account set up.
- Every week, a new project or technique tutorial video is added to their channel. Almost every video has links in the description to written instructions and a grading rubric so that the projects are classroom-ready.
